Data Builder, Inc.’s History of Innovation
Data Builder was incorporated in 2003. In our short, five-year history we have grown to manage millions of documents for our clients. Today, we provide a combination of document management and professional services to construction companies of all sizes and specialties, including four firms ranked within the top 10 on ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list.
Our history started with the scanning of paper documents into an electronic archive. Initially, being able to provide closeout documents for construction projects electronically was considered the edge of innovation. As our emphasis shifted to capturing documents in electronic format at the time they are created, our clients were no longer printing paper documents only to scan them later.
As our technology has evolved, we’ve been able to add new capabilities and even greater value to the electronic document management process by delivering the ability to process large file archives to support critical functions like litigation, field operations, electronic closeout, and architect-engineer-construction collaboration.
Our only limit is our imagination.

Data Builder files a U.S. Patent for the Document Management Console (DMC). Our DMC allows customers to upload, retrieve, and view documents over multiple data sources on an enterprise basis. Data Builder completes the development and deployment of w-ECC, a Web-based version of our ECC product. This allows our customers to share documents in real-time with multiple stakeholders on a simultaneous basis. w-ECC is used by building owners, facility managers, engineers, architects, and maintenance teams. The solution allows for a current version across all parties regardless of location. Data Builder engages four construction firms ranked within the top 10 on ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list as clients or in trials, while further expanding data storage and processing clusters at the Berbee Data Center.
