Document Capture for Fax and Paper Documents
e-PCS has all the essential features for processing images and converting paper to electronic documents in virtually any scanning environment. This versatile and powerful tool supports over 400 models of scanners that use Twain, ISIS, and other industry leading controls. Scan paper documents from your desktop and production scanners, or use your standard office multi-function device to scan documents to files or email. In addition, e-PCS has advanced integration with e-Copy scan client, which allows you to select a specific e-PCS folder directly from the digital display controlling the scanner.

Document Capture for Electronic Documents
The advanced utilities within e-PCS, and integration with all common business applications, make it easy to capture documents before they are printed to paper. According to industry experts, 98% of all business documents start as electronic data within applications. By capturing this information directly from those applications, and supporting electronic workflow, distribution, and storage, e-PCS can substantially reduce your administration expenses and improve organization efficiency.

1. Universal Transfer Utility

The e-PCS Transfer Utility is a simple and consistent interface for uploading documents and messages into the electronic archive. Whether you’re saving the file directly from Microsoft Word or Excel, or simply right clicking on the Windows menu system for file management, the transfer utility is available with a single mouse click.

One or many documents can be uploaded automatically from the Transfer Utility. Simply select the job name and folder and update the document-specific information. Once the process is started you can continue with other tasks, confident that the documents are loaded appropriately.

2. Document Management Console

The Document Management Console (DMC) is a desktop client with full drag and drop transfer capabilities. This client looks and works like Windows Explorer, virtually eliminating the learning curve or a need for training.

Data Builder can also provide custom connectors for the DMC client that allow organizations to manage integrated connections between e-PCS and other file management systems, such as Prolog Manager from Meridian Systems, Microsoft SharePoint, and Oracle’s JDEdwards. Once these connections are created, you can interact with multiple applications using a standard interface for complete file management.

The DMC also provides features that are specific to each document management system, such as the ability to check a document out for editing and check it back in with changes, or more generic concepts such as version tracking. Great effort has been made to duplicate the functionality of the native interface for a given document management system within the DMC. This results in a lowered learning curve for end users and higher usability of the document management system.

3. Email and Printer Clients

Virtual Printer Client
Uploading a document to e-PCS can also be as easy as printing. The e-PCS printer client appears as a virtual printer within the operating system and is available to any application that can print. Simply select the e-PCS printer and print documents directly into the electronic archive from all your business applications.

Email Integration
e-PCS provides direct email integration with leading messaging systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, and Novell GroupWise. This integration makes storing an email – with or without attachments – as easy as saving it to a local file. In addition, all e-PCS folders can be directly connected to email chains through the use of a folder email alias. By including the email alias on communications, an electronic copy of the correspondence and all replies are automatically saved in the document management system.
